brick by brick

It's no secret that I daydream constantly about a light-filled loft with at least one worn red brick wall.  (if you haven't noticed my current blog background...)

WHOA.

perfectly subtle

via decor8, delight by design, desire to inspire, little blue deer, birch & lily

For me, the more subtle the better. A red brick that is washed out a bit, a little grayed...perfection. It should be an accent that turns into a focal point. The kitchen above is almost too much for me, but some brick is better than none, I think. The house next door to my parents' was built by some friends of ours - a gorgeous grey brick inside & out. The owners moved, & the old man who moved in PAINTED it. Painted it a hideous barfy yellow color with orangey brown accents, if it could get any worse. Please, for the love of GOD, do not paint your brick!

I will have a brick wall in my humble abode one day - & I will cherish it.

productive

i got a ton of work done today.  i had a seemingly endless to-do list, & i got everything checked off that was high or medium priorities.  feels good.  got me thinking though, i will not have a desk once i move (saturday!!)  i think i'll just keep my eye out on craigslist & just live out of boxes until then unfortunately.  some wonderful little workstations:

we found it!

roomate & i found our apartment today!  it is lovely...smallish kitchen with new cabinetry (no, not white, but still nice), a fireplace!, a little den/office, beautifully tiled bathrooms, & i get the master with a lovely walk. in. closet.  be still my heart!  the whole apartment has lovely, large windows & great natural light, which is HUGE!  2nd floor, looking over our pool & bbq.  & a small balcony, which my bedroom window looks over.  we move in two weeks & i couldn't be more excited.  the only problem is i literally have NO furniture of my own to move.  looks like i have some shopping to do!

a little living room inspiration! (i have grander images in my mind, but these are all pretty simple & possible for us to do right now!)

what i would do for a brick wall....just one...

this couch looks all kinds of comfy!

a little light

via busy being fabulous, apartment #34

october was so hectic.  fun, but i am exhausted.  this weekend i would love to lounge in front of one of these pretty windows, get some photo editing done & get to it with this blog!  it's been a slow start...but i am starting to get organized so i can stay on top of my posts.  i hope to start some weekly/monthly topics; add a little more oomph than just images.  what do you think?

cozy kitchens

via design sponge, where the sidewalk begins, this is glamorous

alright, so if it isn't obvious, i have a thing for white kitchens.  & glass-paned cabinets, mmm!  i know my next kitchen is not going to be as stylish as these, but i'll be honest...i have secretly fallen in love with one apartment we looked at...simply because of its white kitchen!  i'm not in any hurry to settle down & buy a house, but you can be sure that i am giddy with anticipation about my cute little kitchen that my pups will shake their mud off in, my kids will spill their milk & my hubby will...do the dishes!

(this entry started with my mom's friend gaving me some old silverware she was selling at an estate sale (i was out of town the days of the sale unfortunately).  i love the character that old, mismatched silver pieces have.  i would love to display them somehow in my kitchen!)
